Research For Bristol Zoo – Ellie

Me and Daniella have been researching an idea of visiting Bristol zoo (http://www.bristolzoo.org.uk/). It is local which means that it is easy to visit and they are open from 9:30am till 5:30pm (5pm November onwards).

About Bristol zoo:

We’re more than just a zoo. We are the Bristol, Clifton and West of England Zoological Society Limited – a conservation and education charity.

We’re made up of three distinct parts.

  • Bristol Zoo Gardens, our five-hectare zoo in the heart of Bristol.
  • The Bristol Conservation and Science Foundation, which is responsible for our conservation work – both in the field, and at home.
  • The National Wildlife Conservation Park – a proposed, new 55-hectare zoological park located at Cribbs Causeway, Bristol. The first steps towards creating this park have now taken place with the opening of the Wild Place Project.

Their have been many events for Bristol zoo one of the main ones that has brought many tourists round are the Gromits.

A Mandarill's Best Friend

Keep an eye out for the Bristol Zoo Gardens’ Gromit, A Mandrill’s Best Friend, which will be raising money for the Zoo’s conservation projects, at the official Gromit Auction on 3rd October.

Bristol Zoo has developed and implemented many conservation and research projects both at home and abroad. For example, the Zoo works closely with organisations in caring for chimpanzees and other primates orphaned by illegal poaching at the largest gorilla sanctuary in Africa.

Projects such as the aforementioned are highly successful but continue to need substantial financial investment. All monies raised from A Mandrill’s Best Friend will go towards animal conservation and will further benefit projects striving to protect endangered species.

Opening hours

We’re open every day from 9am-5.30pm in peak season, and close at 5pm during off-peak. The Zoo is closed on Christmas Day. Last entry to the Zoo is an hour before closing time and animal houses close half an hour before closing time.
